Job Summary

Job Title: Physician, Assisted Dying Program

Work Site: Various

Status: Part-Time

Start Date: May 1, 2025

Come work as a Physician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Join a group of dedicated physicians and nurse practitioners who act as assessors and providers in the VCH Regional Assisted Dying Program (ADP). The Assisted Dying Program provides services across multiple settings including various VCH and PHSA health-care facilities, home settings, long-term-care, assisted living, and hospice sites.

We are currently seeking one or more physicians who are interested in joining the ADP team on a regular, scheduled basis, one or more days a week.

Reporting to the Regional Medical Director, the physician who accepts this position will play a critical role in the inter-professional ADP team. They foster a collaborative inter-professional practice environment that enhances client-centered services within the associated clinics/sites/programs. They work within a self-directed team of physicians and other inter-professional colleagues to achieve excellence in client-centered care.

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Mandatory
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • The successful candidate will also be required to apply to & successfully join the Medical Staff of VCH if not already a member.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Passion for patient welfare, and an ability to deliver high-quality care in the context of complex health care systems.
  • Strong commitment to education, including the ability to inspire lifelong learning in students, residents, nurses and colleagues.
  • Commitment to knowing best practices and communicating them effectively to those around you.
  • A strong communicator: Understanding the importance of continuous and effective communication, you are highly skilled at listening, engaging and consulting with diverse stakeholders including patients, internal and external healthcare professionals and caseworker teams.
