Description:This leadership role within the Department of Pediatrics is responsible for managing physician contracts and remuneration processes in a dynamic and high-volume clinical environment. With a strong focus on financial stewardship, the Leader ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all aspects of contract administration and payment workflows. The role demands exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Advanced financial management skills - including budgeting, HR and payroll systems, and data analysis - are essential to support strategic planning, reporting, and continuous improvement. The Leader manages a small team using a coach-like approach that fosters growth, accountability, and collaboration. Responsibilities include mentoring staff, managing competing priorities under pressure and on time, and guiding administrative teams on vendor setup, payment procedures, and database use. The role also serves as a liaison with physicians, Medical Affairs, Accounts Payable, the University of Calgary, and government agencies. Experience working with academic physicians and navigating complex organizational structures is highly valuable in this role.
Minimum of two years’ experience in a management capacity, with demonstrated leadership in team development and performance oversight. Proven experience in financial management, including budgeting, payroll and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Oracle systems. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance; significant related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Strong leadership skills with comfort in decision-making, coaching, and mentoring in a dynamic environment. Ability to manage complex, time-sensitive, and competing priorities under pressure. Demonstrated discretion, tact, and diplomacy when handling sensitive and confidential matters. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate issues and recommend effective solutions. Experience working with academic physicians in a healthcare setting.
Ability to interpret and apply organizational policies and procedures in a complex administrative environment. Experience providing training and guidance to administrative staff on financial and contract-related processes. Familiarity with physician onboarding, privileging, and contract lifecycle management.
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Experience in change management and leading process improvement initiatives. Certification in Project Management, or significant and demonstrated experience managing complex projects.
