Your Opportunity

At Stantec, our groundwater team is growing across British Columbia, Yukon, and Canada. We are seeking an experienced Hydrogeologist to serve as technical lead for our Hydrogeology Team within the Water Resources Group. This role provides a unique opportunity to help shape and grow a hydrogeology team while being connected to a broader national network of groundwater professionals.

The position offers a balance of technical leadership, project delivery, and people development. The successful candidate will lead and mentor a growing team of hydrogeologists and scientists while remaining actively involved in complex hydrogeological assessment and studies. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across Canada, contributing to projects that range from baseline characterization and environmental assessments to mine water management, groundwater supply development, permitting, and closure planning.

This opportunity is well suited to an individual who enjoys both field and office work, has strong technical expertise in hydrogeological investigations, and is motivated by developing people and helping build a high-performing team.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and support a growing team of hydrogeologists and scientists.

  • Foster a positive team culture focused on safety, technical excellence, professional development, and collaboration.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and career development of team members.

  • Coordinate staff resourcing and workload planning in collaboration with project managers, technical leaders and Senior Team Lead.

  • Lead hydrogeological investigations, including drilling programs, well installations, groundwater monitoring, hydraulic testing, and hydrogeological characterization.

  • Develop and interpret conceptual hydrogeological models to support mine water management, environmental assessments, permitting, water supply, and closure planning.

  • Provide technical oversight, quality review, and mentorship on hydrogeological analyses, and technical reporting.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated water management solutions for mining, infrastructure, and environmental projects.

  • Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, technical proposals, and support client relationship development.

  • Contribute to project delivery while helping grow the groundwater practice across BC, Yukon, Canada, and international markets.

  • Support business development and client relationship management activities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong technical foundation in groundwater characterization, aquifer testing, and hydrogeological interpretation.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing drilling programs, monitoring well installation, hydrogeological logging, and field investigations.

  • Experience developing conceptual hydrogeological models and applying them to support project decision-making.

  • Understanding of groundwater flow systems, recharge processes, surface water-groundwater interactions, and mine water management.

  • Experience executing and interpreting pumping tests and packer tests.

  • Experience with GIS and geospatial analysis tools.

  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior and intermediate staff.

  • Collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented mindset.

  • Willingness to travel for field investigations within Canada.

  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is preferred.

Professional registration as a P.Geo. or P.Eng. in British Columbia.

Approximately 7-10 years of relevant hydrogeological consulting, mining, environmental, or water resources experience.
