It all began on the corner of Granville and 28th where seven fearless women welcomed 17 students to the very first York House School in 1932. About this Role

York House School is inviting applications from enthusiastic, innovative, and qualified Physical & Health Education teachers committed to providing an exceptional 21st Century learning environment for our students. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional and assessment practices, a passion for teaching and learning, and a strong understanding of how girls learn best in a Physical Health Education classroom. This teacher will have opportunities to be involved in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance students’ experiences at school. All members of the Physical Education department are expected to coach in the athletics program. This role will be assigned to teach two PHE classes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Education
  • British Columbia Teachers’ certification or equivalent
  • Five years teaching experience is preferred
  • Secondary school qualifications, Physical Education Specialist or equivalent
  • Independent School experience is an asset
  • Coaching and/or extra-curricular experience is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia Curriculum
  • Experience teaching Physical & Health Education in senior grades
  • Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning
  • Experience coaching athletics teams
  • Experience teaching sexual education and first aid is an asset
  • Maintain student standards of behaviour, mutual respect, and safety during all activities
  • Demonstrated experience as an enthusiastic, innovative, and caring educator with a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all its many dimensions
  • Collaborative and flexible, supportive, and effective team-player
  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholders
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to educating the whole student
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology purposefully to transform learning
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction and assessment practices to meet the needs of individual learners
  • Experience with using Understanding by Design as a framework to teach for deeper understanding
  • Experience with the BC Ministry of Education assessment guidelines
  • Experience using an inquiry-based and project-based learning approach
  • Committed to continuous professional growth and improvement
