Job summary

Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS) seeks a Physical Exercise Specialist to lead reconditioning programs for CAF members and improve their functional abilities.

You will train clients, support health promotion activities and work with a professional team to ensure successful return to duty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences or a related field
  • Current Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or eligibility; internal CFMW S certification possible
  • Current CPR and Basic First Aid Qualifications
  • National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certificate or equivalent by end of probation
  • Experience delivering physical fitness programs and training sessions
  • Experience in adult education, workshops and policy/regulation application

Responsibilities

  • Lead reconditioning programs for Canadian Armed Forces members with physical limitations
  • Develop and deliver physical fitness training sessions to improve functional abilities
  • Support Health Promotion partners with education, events and injury prevention initiatives
  • Collaborate with health services team to ensure successful return to duty

THE ROLE

Supporting and working alongside the members of the Canadian Armed Forces and actively preparing them to defend and serve our country could be your path to an extremely fulfilling career.


As part of a dynamic and dedicated team, as the Physical Exercise Specialist, you will have the opportunity to work with a very highly motivated and professional clientele who are eager to return to duty and improve their condition. Daily, you will lead reconditioning programs for Canadian Armed Forces members who may be affected with a medical condition and improve their functional abilities related to their physical limitations.


Being a subject matter expert in your field, you will support your local team with training and professional development. You will assist Health Promotion partners promoting healthy practices and injury prevention through initiative such as educational programs, special events and other activities related to physical fitness.


Much like the military we so proudly support, we push the envelope of what’s possible. Working with us, you’ll have the opportunity to deliver programs and services in collaboration with a highly professional team of health services practitioners. Other stakeholders will be at your disposal to ensure a client’s successful return to duty.


Qualifications Needed

Education, Certifications and Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Sciences or in a related field

  • Current Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP), or eligibility to obtain it in accordance with CSEP prerequisites and successful completion required by end of probation; CFMWS will provide internal certification opportunity.

  • A candidate possessing an equivalent CSEP-CEP certification from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) may be considered.

Current CPR And Basic First Aid Qualifications

  • Current National Lifeguard Service Certificate (NLS) qualification, as required, or successful completion by end of probation

Experience

  • In developing, implementing and delivering physical fitness programs
  • In preparing and conducting physical fitness training sessions
  • In communications for professional and public audiences
  • In the delivery of adult education and facilitation of workshops
  • In applying policies, procedures, and regulations

Competencies

Client focus, organizational knowledge, communication, innovation, teamwork and leadership.


Language Requirements

English Essential, Bilingual (English and French) an asset

Other Information

As part of the selection process, candidates will undergo a physical fitness test (FORCE Evaluation) and must achieve a minimum level of Bronze.


This is an on-site position with an assigned work location.
