Job description

Photonic Engineer (Low Noise Laser Systems) (On-Site)

Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.

At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators, and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!

Your role and responsibilities:

Within the Fault Tolerant Quantum Computing Devices team, you will develop and deploy hardware for our integrated photonic quantum computation platform. As a photonic engineer (low noise laser systems), you will design and build a new low noise laser system and use it to test new generations of our squeezed light sources. You will collaborate with internal and external engineering teams to define requirements for Xanadu’s next generation of low noise lasers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in photonics research and development with an industrial mindset.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD in photonics, AMO, or related discipline
  • Experience in photonic engineering, especially with low noise/phase locked/injection locked lasers
  • Strong understanding of photonics and electronics
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced team environment

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Knowledge of narrow-linewidth lasers, phase-stable frequency combs, optical interferometers, and high-bandwidth control loops (PLLs, Pound-Drever-Hall, etc.)
  • Understanding of coherent detection (homodyne/heterodyne), phase-sensitive experiments, and shot noise-limited measurement
  • Experience with RF electro-optic tools and techniques (EOMs, IQ modulators, etc.)

Our values are fundamental to our culture at Xanadu. Learn more about our values here.

We are committed to building an inclusive, safe, and equitable culture. If you require accommodations during the recruitment process, please contact Recruiting at recruiting@xanadu.ai.
