Lightmatter in Toronto is hiring a PhD-level temporary researcher for the Photonics Architecture team. You will work on photonic architecture, analyzing interactions with SerDes and TIAs, and simulate optical links to improve throughput and density.

The role requires deep optics expertise and programming with Python, Matlab, and photonic design tools. Lightmatter offers a hybrid, equity-inclusive compensation package in a cutting-edge data-center photonics environment.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a PhD in Photonics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering with a specialization in optical communications.
• Experience with optical link simulations in commercial tools such as VPIphotonics, Matlab, Virtuoso or ADS.
• Strong interest in silicon photonics applications for optical communications.

Responsibilities

• Be part of the Passage transceiver product architecture team focused on Photonic Architecture.
• Focus on interaction between photonic effects and performance of SerDes, drivers and TIAs.
• Simulate end-to-end optical links, including fiber polarization, reflections, and thermal dynamics.
