Position: Phlebotomist
Job Description / Duties
Pollin Fertility is currently seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to join our lab team. The successful candidate will play an important role in providing high-quality care while ensuring the well-being of our patients throughout their journey.
What Your Core Responsibilities Will Be:
- Perform lab tests and procedures related to fertility, including hormone assays and other specialized tests as required
- Collect, process and prepare patient samples (blood, urine etc.) for analysis, ensuring adherence to proper handling and storage protocols
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, calibrating and performing routine maintenance to ensure accurate and reliable results
- Follow established protocols and procedures for quality control and quality assurance, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and accreditation standards
- Record and maintain accurate detailed laboratory data, test results, and patient information in electronic medical record systems
- Preparation of specimens & manifest for courier transport to Dynacare
- Brings to the attention of the Laboratory Director/Supervisor or acts upon any errors detected or made, and respond as objectively as possible;
- Becomes familiar with all new or revised procedures as they become available and maintains laboratory currency by regular review of the Laboratory Manual;
- Participates in safety programs within the clinic;
- Maintains up-to-date quality assurance records for tests and procedures performed in the Laboratory.
- Promote a positive work environment and culture, be accountable for personal conduct
- Other duties as required
Qualifications / Required Skills:
- BSc in Biology or related field or diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology.
- Documented training for Phlebotomy.
- MLPAO Certificate
- Diploma in Phlebotomy
- Minimum of one (1) year Laboratory experience specific to phlebotomy techniques in a Fertility setting
- Experience with effective puncture techniques
- Understanding of proper patient identification methods
- Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material
- An ability to apply rigorous quality control procedures
- Well-developed problem solving techniques
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under minimal supervision
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work safely and accurately, follow directives from assigned Laboratory Manager, and complete assigned tasks promptly
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and adjust to varying work assignments as needed, or independently, as required
- Prior hands-on experience with Roche e411 e402 or comparable fertility immunoassay instrument, demonstrating independent technical and troubleshooting skills to operate the platform, perform testing & reporting duties.
- Routine operational duties include: centrifuging and loading samples for testing, performing daily QC, reviewing QC flags, escalating issues to Supervisors and/or Roche Customer service as needed, reviewing results prior to finalizing reporting
- Is proficient in Google, docs, and sheets
- Has superior patient service skills, confidentiality and a professional demeanor
- Is self-motivated with an ability to work independently while following procedures
- Is able to prioritize and seamlessly manage multiple tasks
- Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
- Has highly effective organizational, documentation and communication skills
Working Conditions
- General office conditions
- 7 day per week operation, 7am-3pm
- Weekend and Holiday work as required
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and an attractive benefits package.
