The Philanthropy Officer, Planned Giving is responsible for growing the YMCA’s planned giving program and securing major gifts to support its programs.Reporting to the VP of Marketing and Philanthropy, this role develops and manages planned giving strategies, cultivates relationships with prospective and current donors, and stewards Legacy donors. Key duties include donor research, event execution, database management, and mentoring team members. The Philanthropy Officer of Planned Giving also serves as a vital link between the YMCA and its community partners.

Annual salary range $74,963- $92,144 plus competitive compensation package, pension, benefits and free membership.

  • Identify, research, and build relationships with prospects which will result in face-to-face meetings and the solicitation of planned and major gifts while maintaining a high level of professionalism, adhering to ethical standards, and treating relationships with sensitivity, and respect.
  • Provide excellent donor stewardship, and recognition to facilitate renewal and / or upgrade of future donations
  • Completing solicitations on a timely basis to ensure planned giving targets are met
  • Identify, manage and develop a portfolio of planned giving prospects; secure planned gifts; steward planned and major gift donors; work with VP of Marketing & Philanthropy on planned giving strategy and events
  • Maintain knowledge of various planned giving vehicles, current trends in planned giving and philanthropy, and an understanding of basic estate and financial planning strategies for individuals.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with professional advisors in the financial and legal sectors.
  • Write compelling funding proposals and other donor communication materials including letters of intent, proposals, and reports.
  • Participate in, lead and support the planning and execution of donor events.
  • Ensure accurate donor records by updating donor interactions, giving intentions, communication preferences and recognition in Raiser’s Edge.

We’d love to hear from people with :

  • 5 years experience in fund development with a strong knowledge of the Planned Giving environment
  • An understanding of legislative tax guidelines an asset
  • A degree / diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of prospect researching with a proven track record in closing annual, major and planned gift asks through excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write a variety of documents, such as donor communications, proposals and reports
  • Superior relationship building, strategy development and fundraising skills.
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills with ability to be strategic, proactive
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
  • Completion of CAGP Gift Planning Fundamentals course and active membership and / or involvement in CAGP an asset
