Offer Description

The Chartrand lab (U Montréal, Canada) is looking for a motivated graduate student interested to study the mechanisms involved in mRNA transport and localization. This project aims to 1) identify the signaling pathways that regulate the mRNA transport machinery and 2) determine the role of mRNA localization factors in retrotransposon biology. This project uses the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model organism, and involves approaches in live-cell imaging, biochemistry, proteomics and functional genomics. This project follows up on our extensive work to study the mechanisms and regulation of mRNA transport and localized translation (Farajzadeh et al., RNA , 2023, PMID: 36921931 ; Shahbabian et al., Nucleic Acids Res ., 2014, PMID: 25013181 ; Shen et al., Genes&Dev , 2010, PMID: 20713510 ; Paquin et al., Molecular Cell , 2007, PMID: 17588515 ).

The laboratory is located in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine of the Université de Montreal ( https://www.umontreal.ca/en/ ). Université de Montréal is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world (Times Higher Education ranking) and Montreal is a dynamic, bilingual French/English, multicultural city, recognized as one of the best cities for university studies (Quacquarelli Symonds ranking).
