We are seeking an exceptional and motivated PhD student to join a cutting - edge research
project in Permafrost Geophysics at the University of Calgary. This exciting opportunity is
part of a collaborative initiative between WSP, the University of Calgary, and Mitacs , and
is ideally suited for candidates eager to work at the intersection of academia and industry.
The successful candidate will focus on improving quantitative geophysical assessments in
permafrost terrain by integrating geophysical techniques with geotechnical field and
laboratory data. A mine reclamation site in the Northwest Territories will serve a s the
primary field location, oGering hands - on experience in Northern Canada. The position is
based at the University of Calgary, with field travel to Yellowknife.
The student will be jointly supervised by Dr. Jocelyn Hayley and Dr. Teddi Herring , and will
join a diverse, supportive, and interdisciplinary research group at the forefront of
permafrost and cold regions engineering.

Ideal candidates will have:
• A strong background in geophysics, geotechnical engineering, geology, or a related
discipline
• Previous research or industry experience (preferred)
• An interest in working in remote environments and interdisciplinary collaboration
Start dates are flexible and may include September 2025, January 2026, or May 2026 .
