Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, Clinical Support Services, and the supervision of the Pharmacist, within the scope of practice of a registered Pharmacy Technician, the Pharmacy Technician will assist in carrying out activities of the Hospital Pharmacy according to standard practices, morals, ethics, and the values of Providence Care.

The Pharmacy Technician will work to the full scope of practice as per the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) Model Standards of Practice for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians, supporting the Pharmacist to ensure the safe and accurate distribution of pharmaceuticals in the hospital.

The Pharmacy Technician is accountable to the Ontario College of Pharmacists and Providence Care for professional service to clients/patients.

Education & Experience
  • Current unrestricted registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Registered Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T.)
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred
Position Responsibilities
  • Prepare new and refill prescriptions (counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing, repackaging, labelling) following organizational policies
  • Generate fill lists, prepare cart fills, and verify for accuracy
  • Perform sterile product preparation as per departmental policy
  • Participate in admission medication reconciliation; compile the Best Possible Medication History (BPMH) through interviews and review of medication history sources, and document in the electronic patient record
  • Manage inventory including ordering, receiving, perpetual inventory, expired product returns, and physical counts
