Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Pharmacist and the direction of the Operational Director, Clinical Support Services, the Pharmacy Technician will support hospital pharmacy activities in line with professional standards, ethics, and the values of Providence Care. The role involves working within the full scope of practice defined by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) to ensure the safe and accurate distribution of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Technician is accountable to both the Ontario College of Pharmacists and Providence Care for providing professional service to clients and patients.

Education & Experience
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (R.Ph.T.) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred
Responsibilities
  • Prepare individual client/patient prescriptions, including counting, pouring, weighing, measuring, mixing, repackaging, and labelling, following organizational policies
  • Create fill lists, prepare and verify cart fills for accuracy
  • Perform sterile product preparation per departmental guidelines
  • Participate in medication reconciliation upon admission; gather medication history through interviews and review of records, and document in electronic patient records
  • Manage inventory including ordering, receiving, managing perpetual inventory, handling expired products, conducting physical inventory counts, and financial reporting
