Pharmacy technicians play a key role in providing personalized pharmaceutical care to cancer patients. The Odette Cancer Centre pharmacy technicians are involved in specialized medication dispensing of take-home medications and interact directly with patients going through an often stressful journey. They routinely solve logistical problems for our patients and work closely with pharmacists, drug access navigators, nurses, and physicians to ensure patients receive their prescriptions accurately and on time. As a specialty pharmacy, a majority of prescriptions involve complicated adjudication and patient support programs. Odette pharmacy technicians are also responsible for sterile compounding of individualized chemotherapy doses for over 100 patients daily in the chemotherapy clinic, involving various drugs and clinical trial medications. They use multiple software programs in these dispensing functions and must be competent in mathematical calculations and prioritization. Duties also include inventory management, ordering, and receiving drugs and supplies.
This temporary position will initially focus on specialty retail pharmacy dispensing, with potential involvement in sterile compounding depending on staffing needs.
