Job summary

Whitehorse General Hospital in Whitehorse, Yukon, is seeking a Regular Full-Time Pharmacy Technician at the L05 level. The role includes manufacturing sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy, along with order entry duties.

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, you will help measure, manufacture, and distribute medications, assist with purchasing/receiving, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient pharmacy operations.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma required and graduation from a pharmacy technician program with hospital practicum.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience and PEBC registration are desirable.
  • Experience with Meditech or similar hospital information systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacture sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy.
  • Perform order entry duties and ensure correct dispensing.
  • Measure, manufacture, compound, package, and distribute medications.
  • Organize and distribute medications within the dispensary.
  • Assist with purchasing and receiving, under supervision.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Description

Regular Full-Time Position - (1.0 FTE)

This position is at the L05 level with an hourly pay range of $33.93 - $42.93

(PSAC Bargaining Unit)

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager, the incumbent, as part of the Pharmacy team, performs complex duties such as manufacturing various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy; performs order entry duties; measures, manufactures, compounds, packages; organizes and distributes medications; assists with the purchasing and receiving; and performs other related duties. The position makes decisions with regard to: quantity of items packaged/compounded; quantities of medication required including compounded parenteral products; determines quantities of supplies stocked in dispensary inventory in consultation with Pharmacy Manager and performs purchasing/receiving duties as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for various sterile products, intravenous solutions, and chemotherapy drugs and to measure, manufacture, compound, package, and distribute medications;
  • Analytical skills;
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to deal with others effectively;
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position;
  • Basic computer skills, including typing;
  • Ability to operate related equipment;
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary work team

The successful applicant will have grade 12 diploma and graduated from a nationally recognized Pharmacy Technician course including a hospital pharmacy practicum (or judged equivalent experience). The following education, training and certification are desired: 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience; National Certification from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC); registration with a Canadian College of Pharmacy; Meditech experience and 6-12 months, experience preparing chemotherapy.
