Qualifications

Job description

The primary responsibility of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist the Pharmacist by performing technical and clerical tasks necessary for the accurate preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products to patient care areas of the hospital. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Coordinating daily workload to meet departmental needs.
  2. Prepacking non-unit-dose oral medications for dispensing to patient care areas.
  3. Aseptically preparing intravenous medications within designated timeframes, using appropriate techniques including aseptic technique, chemo gown, and gloves, while adhering to IV Room policies.
  4. Accurately and efficiently filling medication orders.
  5. Dispensing medications to Omnicell cabinets accurately and efficiently.
  6. Ordering and stocking medications accurately and efficiently.
  7. Inspecting areas inside and outside the Pharmacy for outdated drugs.
  8. Answering phones courteously and helpfully.
  9. Accepting and completing extra duties and special projects as requested and within deadlines.
  10. Delivering medications to patient care areas timely and accurately.

Qualifications include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Massachusetts Pharmacy Technician registration with no disciplinary actions.
  • National certification (CPhT).
  • Adherence to C.A.R.E. Standards.
  • Effective communication skills with healthcare personnel.
  • Understanding of pharmacy operations, including medication processing, Omnicell systems, Epic, and other pharmacy technologies.
  • Sufficient pharmaceutical knowledge for safe medication distribution.
