Pharmacy Technician

Work with BC Cancer’s pharmacy team and receive on-the-job training to specialize your skills. No previous oncology experience is needed. We provide inhouse training for areas such as sterile compounding, OPD and Chemo IV Clinical Trials, Drug Access Navigator – you’ll have opportunities for specialty pharmacy roles including Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Trial Technician, and Omni Cell Technician.

You’ll work to your full scope of practice with a friendly group of professionals in a small-scale hospital setting. Additionally, the BC Cancer pharmacy environment provides direct patient contact through the outpatient dispensary, for a full continuity of care experience.

What You’ll Do
  1. Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to a patient.
  2. Receive prescriptions (verbal and non verbal) from practitioners and ensure that prescriptions are complete and authentic by verifying allergy status and/or demographics.
  3. Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging or re-packaging medications, and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products, including hazardous drugs, according to established procedures. Pre-package oral, liquid, and topical medications into unit-of-use format.
  4. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions by verifying order entries and performing final checks.
  5. Enter and verify the accuracy of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
  6. Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
  7. Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leave of absence by reviewing, translating, and converting existing inpatient medication orders previously reviewed and approved by a pharmacist.
  8. Maintain accurate records such as medication verification and quality assurance checks.
  9. Distribute medications and maintain inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  10. Maintain inventory and wardstock levels, and fill wardstock and narcotic requisitions.
  11. Identify outdated drugs for return or destruction by checking stock expiry dates.
  12. Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order, stock pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware. Ensure safe disposal of hazardous drugs and supplies.
  13. Perform clerical duties such as keyboarding, answering phones, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities, and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.) is a strong asset.

Type: Two (2) Regular, Part-Time (0.80 FTE) Opportunities

Wage: $34.18/hour. As of May 15, 2025, may qualify for a recruitment incentive up to $30,000 (subject to funding).
