Pharmacy Technician BC Cancer

Vancouver, BC

Work with BC Cancer’s pharmacy team and receive on-the-job training to specialize your skills. No previous oncology experience is needed. We provide in-house training for areas such as sterile compounding, OPD, Chemo IV Clinical Trials, Drug Access Navigator – offering opportunities for roles like Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Trial Technician, and Omni Cell Technician.

You’ll work to your full scope of practice with a friendly team in a small hospital setting. The BC Cancer pharmacy environment also provides direct patient contact through the outpatient dispensary, ensuring comprehensive care experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Processing clinically reviewed medication orders for patient distribution.
  • Receiving prescriptions from practitioners, verifying completeness and authenticity.
  • Preparing and processing prescriptions, performing duties such as entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, and compounding sterile pharmaceuticals.
  • Ensuring accuracy of dispensed prescriptions through verification and final checks.
  • Entering and maintaining drug and patient information in the pharmacy system.
  • Transferring prescriptions between pharmacies.
  • Processing prescriptions for inpatient leave by reviewing and translating existing orders.
  • Maintaining accurate records of medication verification and quality assurance.
  • Distributing medications and managing inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  • Maintaining inventory levels and filling requisitions.
  • Identifying and managing outdated drugs.
  • Keeping work areas tidy, stocking supplies, and ensuring safe disposal of hazardous drugs.
  • Performing clerical duties like answering phones, filing, and record-keeping.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.

  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Physical ability to perform duties.
  • Keyboarding skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy-related equipment.
  • A commitment to reconciliation and understanding Indigenous perspectives, aligned with TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
