Job description

Pharmacy Technician

BC Cancer
Surrey, BC

Work with BC Cancer's pharmacy team and receive on-the-job training to specialize your skills. No previous oncology experience is needed. We provide in-house training for areas such as sterile compounding, OPD and Chemo IV Clinical Trials, Drug Access Navigator. Opportunities for specialty pharmacy roles include Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Clinical Trial Technician, and Omni Cell Technician.

Work to your full scope of practice with a friendly group of professionals in a small-scale hospital setting. The BC Cancer pharmacy environment also provides direct patient contact through the outpatient dispensary, ensuring full continuity of care.

What you'll do
  1. Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to patients.
  2. Receive prescriptions (verbal and non-verbal) from practitioners and verify their completeness and authenticity.
  3. Prepare and process prescriptions, including entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, re-packaging medications, and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products, including hazardous drugs, according to procedures.
  4. Verify the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions.
  5. Enter and maintain drug and personal health information in the pharmacy system.
  6. Transfer prescriptions to and from other pharmacies.
  7. Process prescriptions for inpatient leave by reviewing and translating medication orders.
  8. Maintain accurate records of medication verification and quality assurance checks.
  9. Distribute medications and manage inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  10. Maintain inventory levels and fill requisitions.
  11. Identify outdated drugs for return or destruction.
  12. Keep work areas tidy, stock supplies, and ensure safe disposal of hazardous drugs.
  13. Perform clerical duties such as keyboarding, answering phones, and filing.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring

Qualifications:

  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples, with a commitment to anti-racism and equity in healthcare.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and commitments, including the TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
