Job summary

Northern Health - BC is seeking a registered Pharmacy Technician to join Pharmacy Services. The incumbent will operate under supervision, process medication orders, verify prescriptions and assist with compounding in a dynamic hospital setting.

Responsibilities include receiving prescriptions, ensuring accuracy, transferring prescriptions, and maintaining accurate drug information in the pharmacy system while handling stock and clerical tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with current license.
• Experience processing prescriptions and compounding medications.
• Ability to follow policy and operate under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Processes medication orders clinically reviewed for appropriateness and approved by a Pharmacist.
• Receives prescriptions from practitioners and ensures completeness and authenticity.
• Prepares, processes and compounds prescriptions; performs final check of dispensed meds.
• Transfers prescriptions to and from other pharmacies and maintains drug records.
• Maintains stock levels and handles clerical duties in the pharmacy.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Pharmacy Technician operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and scope of practice and standards of practice for Pharmacy Technicians as outlined by the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia, and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols. Processes medication orders that are clinically reviewed for therapeutic appropriateness and approved by a Pharmacist. Receives verbal and non-verbal prescriptions from practitioners and ensures that prescriptions are complete and authentic. Prepares, processes and compounds prescriptions. Ensures the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions prepared by self or others by verifying order entries and/or performing the final check of dispensed prescriptions. Processes prescriptions for temporary inpatient leaves of absence. Transfers prescriptions to and receives prescriptions from other pharmacies. Enters and ensures the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the Pharmacy information system. Maintains stock levels and performs clerical duties as assigned.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work

Tuesday to Saturday, Days - 07:00 to 15:00, 07:30 to 15:30, 08:00 to 16:00

Rotation and days of work are subject to change based on operational needs. Position is part of a statutory holiday rotation.
