Job Description
- Where state and federal laws/regulations allow, accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities. Ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
- Responsible for operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervises pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
- Responsible for the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Leads training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Makes decisions regarding performance management, including discipline and termination.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints, responds to requests promptly, and answers non-clinical questions to ensure a positive experience. Shares customer service best practices.
- Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, enhancing their experience and focusing on healthcare services.
Operations
- Assists pharmacists in delivering patient care, including patient registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where allowed by law). Completes patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision. Assists with healthcare services like administering vaccines and health screenings, as permitted by law.
- Within authorized guidelines, exercises independent judgment to delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work, ensuring tasks are completed timely and holding others accountable.
- Prepares and files reports and records required by the company and government agencies under direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
- Manages pharmacy workflow, coordinates daily activities, recommends staffing hours, and maintains a clean, organized, and stocked pharmacy environment.
- Under pharmacist supervision, ensures compliance and executes administrative and inventory management activities, including annual inventory preparation.
- Completes non-clinical patient calls, drives technology and process improvements, and ensures proper operation of pharmacy equipment.
- Adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policies, supports asset protection, monitors diversion concerns, communicates prescription errors, and manages insurance claims to resolve issues.
- Supports pharmacy financials, operational quality, and community outreach efforts, including coordinating off-site immunization clinics and building retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
- Leads performance management, including discipline and termination decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and policies. Holds technicians accountable for attendance and performance, and supports their training and development.
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and monitoring licensure and certification compliance among pharmacy staff.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintains PTCB certification and relevant state certifications. Pursues ongoing education and training, including certifications like LTMP, and follows performance improvement plans.
- Seeks professional growth through self-monitoring, feedback, and mentorship.
Communication
- Maintains effective communication with the pharmacy team, relaying messages and participating in store meetings.
Basic Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital setting.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
