Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Pharmacy Manager leads the planning and delivery of patient-focused pharmacy services, ensuring quality care and a safe environment for both patients and staff. This role supports the achievement of departmental goals aligned with Schroeder Ambulatory Centre's (SAC) strategic priorities and upholds the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) Standards. The incumbent will foster trust, engage staff, and build strong relationships across the organization. Act as key advocate for patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement, the Pharmacy Manager ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards while operating within SAC’s Health Leadership Capabilities Framework.

Key Duties & Responsibilities :

Strategy and Goals

Develop and evaluate short- and long-term departmental goals and service objectives

Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance pharmacy services, reduce costs and resolve operational issues

Participate in quality of care, patient safety and research initiatives at SAC

Professional Practice

  • Establish and review policies to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and SAC standards

Ensure high-quality patient care through best practices in medication assessment, monitoring and counseling

Oversee medication safety activities including adverse drug reaction reporting and medication incident follow-up

Leadership

Provide leadership, strategic direction and ongoing support to pharmacy staff

Ensures proper staffing, training and team development through coaching and mentorship

Engage in internal and external committees to support organizational goals

Drug Distribution

  • Oversee drug distribution systems, computerized order processing, formulary management, inventory and procurement
  • Corporate Responsibilities

  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, SAC Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Be responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, SAC Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Skills & Qualifications :

    Graduate of a recognized university Pharmacy program (B.Sc. Pharmacy or PharmD)

    Master’s degree and hospital residency considered an asset

    Licensed under Part A of the Ontario College of Pharmacists

    Minimum 5–7 years of related hospital pharmacy experience, including clinical and supervisory roles

    Previous management experience within a healthcare setting

    Strong knowledge of pharmacy principles, practice trends, technological developments and regulatory requirements

    Proven business and administrative skills, with experience collaborating across multiple stakeholders

    Demonstrated ability to develop and implement standards, protocols, policies and procedures

    High level of integrity, initiative and commitment to ongoing professional development

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly present complex ideas to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders

    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively

    Maintains confidentiality with discretion and sensitivity regarding confidential information

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of developing and implementing effective solutions

    Ability to lead, delegate tasks and motivate team members

    Computer proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with Meditech is an asset

    Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulation

    Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check / vulnerable sector check
