Job description

Neighbourly Pharmacy is looking for a Pharmacy Assistant /Front Store Clerk to join our team atVegreville Drug Mart in Vegreville, Alberta.

Responsibilities (Pharmacy Assistant):

  • Customer Service: Greet customers, answer phone calls, and respond to inquiries about medications and pharmacy services courteously and professionally.
  • Prescription Processing: Under the supervision of a Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician, assist in processing prescription orders, including data entry, labelling, and packaging.
  • Medication Dispensing: Count, measure, and package prescription medications accurately and safely, following established protocols and procedures.
  • Inventory Management: Receive, unpack, and stock incoming shipments of medications and supplies. Monitor inventory levels, conduct stock rotations, and assist with inventory audits as needed.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy area, including medication shelves, dispensing counters, and workstations. Dispose of expired medications and hazardous waste according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Administrative Support: Perform clerical tasks such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents. Assist with processing insurance claims and coordinating prescription transfers as required.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and pharmacy policies, including privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Other Duties: Assist with special projects, promotions, and events as assigned by pharmacy management.

Responsibilities (Front Store Clerk):

  • Acknowledge and greet all customers with a smile and hello. Maintain a warm, friendly attitude toward all customers.
  • Handle telephone inquiries quickly and courteously. Avoid keeping in-store customers waiting.
  • This position will include job variety, and the successful candidate will work at the cash register, stock shelves, and tidy the aisle.
  • Pay attention to store security. Follow store policy regarding the handling of shoplifters.
  • Display all goods in the shop properly and arrange them so customers can quickly discover them.
  • Develop product knowledge and learn about new products. Know product locations and store layout.
  • Request a cash pick-up when large sums of money are accumulated. Anticipate requirements for change before running out.
  • Handle lottery and CBO tickets as per store procedures.
  • Use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult customers. Know whom to refer a customer to if they have a complaint.
  • Inform the store manager of all customer complaints, comments, and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc.
  • Maintain the store's general appearance and make sure everything is clean, restocked, and well-arranged.
  • Learn and utilize proper merchandising techniques such as shelf label placement,stock rotation, and facing.
  • Maintain specific sections as allocated. Notify the store buyer regarding merchandise out of stock.
  • Maintain product data and inventory, and make sure the reordering process is simple.
  • Participate in the development and preparation of displays, windows, and seasonal promotions.
  • Always keep busy and productive. When cashiering, identify tasks that can be performed between customers.
  • Miscellaneous tasks to support the Front Store Manager and Store Operator/Pharmacy Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Retail experience is an asset.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks such as medication counting and labelling.
  • Organization: Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and pharmacy software systems (training will be provided).
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with pharmacy staff and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the operational hours of the pharmacy.
  • Criminal Record Check required.

Schedule:

  • 0 to 40 hours per week (Casual Position).
  • 8-hour shift
  • The store is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • The usual shifts will fall between these days and times.
  • This role will include temporary full-time hours from June 2025 to September 2025.
