Position Summary

As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will report to the Pharmacy Management team. You will work alongside your professional team members and registered staff, directly supporting a group of LTC Homes and Retirement Communities.

The successful applicant will be assisting in maintenance and operations of the Pharmacy as described by the Pharmacy Standards of Practice and work as an integral part of a diverse team under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacist.

Compensation: $18.50 - $22.00/hour

This is an entry level position and a great opportunity to start a career in a new field! No experience in Pharmacy is required, training will be provided.

Your Day To Day

  • Receiving stock and putting away stock to drug shelves
  • Efficiently count, measure, package and label prescriptions
  • May be required to mix, reconstitute, or compound prescriptions under pharmacist’s supervision
  • May be required to operate automated dispensing machine (PacMed)
  • Prepare daily deliveries and weekly deliveries to care facilities and retirement homes
  • Assist in maintaining and monitoring pharmacy inventory
  • Manage returns and expired products from nursing homes, include unpacking, sorting and disposal, at the same time keeping working space clean and tidy
  • Organize and file prescriptions and other related clerical/administrative task
  • Maintain supplies and consumables stock levels and order when required
  • Assist with other pharmacy operations as required and within your scope
  • Consult with members of the pharmacy management team when there are unresolved issues surrounding day to day work functions

What You Will Bring To The Team

  • Post-Secondary education
  • Pharmacy Assistant experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in Long Term Care Pharmacy is a strong asset but not required
  • Experience in operating PacMed automated dispensing machine is a strong asset but not required
  • Ability to work both in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment
