Job description

Your Opportunity:
The Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre, where the Pharmacist I works at a busy 65 bed Acute Care and 107 bed Continuing Care facility. The facility’s Acute Care hosts a mix of General Medicine, Special Care, Palliative, Pediatric, Surgical, Obstetrics and Rehabilitation beds. The Wetaskiwin Pharmacy provides pharmacy services to both Acute and Continuing Care patients at the site as well as the busy Emergency Department. The Pharmacy also acts as a HUB for other rural facilities throughout the zone, through its provision of unit dose stock and custom packaging services. Wetaskiwin provides a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment for pharmacists, where they can provide specialized and general medicine care to patients. The pharmacy department strongly supports professional development and provides educational opportunities and support to facilitate pharmacist growth. The Pharmacy department is supported by a team of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants, led by the Operations Manager for Central Zone North, working towards their full scope of practice.

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Pharmacy related experience in a hospital setting or in direct patient care providing comprehensive medication management services. Recent experience as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team. Experience with computerized medication order entry, IV admixture programs and different drug distribution systems such as unit dose and automated dispensing cabinets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) from the Alberta College of Pharmacist would be an asset for this position; successful candidates not having APA will be expected to obtain it within 6 months of commencing in this position if eligible.
