Job description

Your Opportunity:

Together we’re Better. Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is the largest public hospital for sick children in Alberta. ACH was built with family-centered care in mind and prides itself on engaging patients and families on a regular basis through a family-centered approach to care. ACH is a leader in pediatric and neonatal care and is a major referral center for pediatric malignancies and complex hematological treatment including pediatric bone marrow transplants. Alberta's only hospice for children (Rotary Flames House) is located next door to ACH.

Position Overview: The Pharmacist is responsible for direct patient care services, drug distribution services (indirect patient care), drug information & education/research activities. This position includes precepting & teaching pharmacy residents, staff, and students, and providing drug information to pharmacy, nursing, medicine, & other multidisciplinary team members as required. Pharmacists participate in patient care rounds, liaise with healthcare team members, and develop professional relationships with patients & families to formulate medication treatment plans. Direct patient care responsibilities may involve general pediatrics, complex care, HOT (hematology, oncology, transplant), mental health, PICU, NICU, or emergency settings. ACH Pharmacists also provide direct patient care to NICU and adolescent mental health units at the Foothills Medical Center.

Responsibilities:

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. Additionally, you will assess, intervene, and resolve potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, active or eligible registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP). Additional: Advanced Prescribing Authority (APA) is required, with a one-year timeline to obtain if not already held. Recent direct patient care experience in pediatrics (minimum 1 year within the last 3 years). Fluency in English, computer literacy, evidence-based medicine application, self-directed learning, decision-making ability, good time management, excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years hospital pharmacy experience, including pediatric/oncology drug therapy; one year experience with Epic (Connect Care); recent multidisciplinary team experience; TPN, IV admixture, & unit dose drug distribution experience; hospital pharmacy residency; additional specialization or training in pediatrics or clinical areas; project/research experience; membership in professional organizations such as CSHP or CaPhO.
