Why this role is important?

Summary:

Manage pharmacy operations during your shift, including providing advice to clients and healthcare providers, utilizing your full scope of practice to deliver professional services, dispensing medications, and assisting in maintaining the dispensary.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Pharmacy and customer service.
  • Greet all customers entering the pharmacy.
  • Practice within regulatory and legal requirements, federal and provincial.
  • Ensure all confidentiality requirements are met, including client confidentiality and consent management.
  • Offer consultations on prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and behind-the-counter medications.
  • Utilize your full scope of practice to provide professional services within your capacity.
  • Be clearly identifiable to the public.
  • Ensure accuracy and relevance of all dispensed prescriptions.
  • Communicate with other healthcare professionals within the care circle to provide customer service.
  • Maintain all required records in accordance with legislation, practice standards, and policies.

Operational Procedures and Inventory Management:

  • Control access to the dispensary regarding stock and patient confidentiality.
  • Review and update daily operational queues.
  • Regularly check 'call' bins according to established standard operating procedures.
  • Review stock for expired items.
  • Supervise current stock levels and wholesale medication orders.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and control requirements under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and related regulations, reporting to Health Canada and regulatory agencies.

Operations:

  • Ensure that workstations, consultation areas, waiting areas, and work islands reflect an appropriate image of the pharmacy.
  • Participate in financial reporting, if applicable.
  • Read and execute communications to stores via Intra-mag.
  • Write incident reports when incidents involving medications or confidentiality occur.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Ability to think critically and make decisions; problem-solving skills.
  • Plan, coordinate, delegate tasks, and provide guidance to pharmacy colleagues.
  • Proven ability to stimulate and grow business, lead by example, and support company programs.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Superior customer relation skills and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and experience in developing and implementing action plans.
  • Solid computer skills and knowledge of pharmacy systems are a significant asset.
  • Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Complete mandatory training and optional ongoing workshops as needed.
