Job summary

Canada Drug Agency (CDA-AMC) is building a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities in its Pharmaceutical Reviews team. The role focuses on writing reports that address policy questions about pharmaceutical products and supporting evidence-based decision-making in Canada.

The position requires a graduate degree in a health-related field, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment with some on-site days in Ottawa

Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a health-related discipline with research experience and ability to conduct critical appraisals, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and/or HTAs.
  • Knowledge and experience in research methods, systematic reviews, pharmaceutical appraisals, development and application of HTAs, evidence-based medicine, and study design.
  • Understanding of Canada's health care system, relevant legislation, regulation, and decision-making processes related to reviews.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and strong scientific/report writing.
  • Ability to present effectively before expert groups and diverse audiences.
  • Experience working collaboratively, prioritizing, and balancing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Respectful, approachable, and team-oriented with positive work relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Work within multidisciplinary review teams to prepare reports addressing pharmaceutical-related research and policy questions.
  • Conduct literature reviews, critical appraisals, evidence syntheses, and meta-analyses as needed.
  • Support other reviewers in producing reports and related products.
  • Act as an expert resource on critical appraisal of clinical studies and scientific reporting.
  • Provide project status updates to Senior Pharmaceutical Review Officer or Manager to ensure project alignment.
  • Support program priorities and initiatives to enhance transparency and evidence-based decision-making.

Salary range: $70,890 to $86,650 per year

Hybrid Work Arrangement

Primary Focus

We may have an upcoming opportunity on our Pharmaceutical Reviews team and are excited to start looking for great candidates now.

The Pharmaceutical Reviews Officer works within multidisciplinary research teams to prepare (write) reports that address specific research and/or policy questions regarding pharmaceutical products. This role is responsible for creating high-quality products that meet the needs of our customers to facilitate decisions regarding policies related to pharmaceutical products.

What do the daily responsibilities look like?

On any given day, the Pharmaceutical Reviews Officer will:

  • work within multidisciplinary review teams to prepare reports that address pharmaceutical-related research and/or policy questions regarding pharmaceutical products
  • conduct comprehensive literature reviews, critical appraisals, evidence syntheses, and other relevant research activities, including indirect comparisons, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews
  • support other reviewers in the production of reports or other products as required
  • act as an expert resource to others in all matters related to the critical appraisal of clinical studies, authoring of scientific reports, and relevant related topics or particular areas of expertise
  • provide project status updates as required to the Senior Pharmaceutical Review Officer and/or Pharmaceutical Review Manager to ensure appropriate conduct of projects, achievement of work priorities, job expectations, and compliance with systems, policies, and procedures
  • support current program priorities and initiatives aligned with corporate objectives to the organization to enhance transparency, support evidence-based decision-making, and continuous quality improvement.
Is this the right role for you?

The Pharmaceutical Reviews Officer will likely have:

  • a graduate degree in a health-related discipline (biostatistics, epidemiology, pharmacy, health economics, medicine) plus research experience and the ability to conduct critical appraisals, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and/or health technology assessments (HTA)
  • demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and experience in research methods, systematic reviews, pharmaceutical appraisals, development and application of HTAs, evidence-based medicine, and study design
  • an understanding of the health care system in Canada, relevant legislation, regulation, and decision-making processes as it relates to our reviews
  • excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated strength in scientific or technical report writing
  • the ability to speak effectively before expert groups and/or diverse audiences
  • experience in working collaboratively, prioritizing, and balancing multiple competing tasks effectively
  • the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • the ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
