Job Summary

PetSmart’s Pet Stylist in Training is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets, providing positive experiences and salon services. This role receives training from our experienced Professional Styling teams, learning proper grooming techniques. It also involves upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy, maintaining store cleanliness, recommending solutions for pet parents, and ensuring pet safety standards.

The Pet Stylist in Training role is obtained once the associate has successfully completed the PetSmart Grooming Academy.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Perform bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services under supervision, following PetSmart’s standards.
  • Develop safe technical skills to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents based on pet needs.
  • Ensure a positive pet parent experience, handling inquiries and assisting with reservations.
  • Conduct appointment reminders, maintain records, and rebook appointments.
  • Promote salon sales and meet sales targets and metrics.
  • Recommends and sells merchandise and services.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions for pets in the grooming area.
  • Take immediate action for sick or injured pets, including transport to the vet if needed.
  • Assist in other departments as required.
  • Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Completion of PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification.
  • Prior grooming experience preferred; may require a technical exam.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong organizational, attention to detail, and safety skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle tools; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; vision requirements include depth perception.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; team lift more than 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, noise, and live animals.
