Job Summary

PetSmart’s Salon Experience Lead (Groomer & Salon Trainer) is responsible for providing exceptional service to pet parents and supporting a high performing team while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role will deliver professional quality services with the utmost focus on quality and care of pets. The Salon Experience Lead will support the development of bathers and new stylists, guiding them through the entire pet stylist development program.

Essential Responsibilities

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:

People Leadership:

• Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development. This includes training, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and providing feedback for performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and promotions.
• Responsible for developing new and existing associates through bather and stylist certification processes.
• Identifies internal candidates for stylist training programs.
• Delegates and verifies completion of daily salon tasks.
• Addresses and manages associate complaints and grievances.
• Recognizes and celebrates associates to promote engagement.

Salon and Store Experience:

• Ensures excellent pet parent interactions and handles concerns effectively.
• Supports pet parents, answers questions, and recommends wellness solutions.
• Engages with pet parents at checkout to foster connection and rebooking.
• Promotes marketing initiatives and utilizes salon tools for reservations and communication.
• Maintains store standards, ensuring policies and ethics are followed.
• Performs full grooming services and standalone services like nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services.
• Works to grow salon sales and achieve relevant metrics.
• Ensures cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions in the grooming area.
• Reports any sick or injured pets and facilitates necessary actions.
• Communicates business trends and best practices with the Experience Leader.
• Reports supply and facility needs.
• Recommends and sells services and merchandise.
• Supports other departments as needed.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years grooming experience; technical exam may be required.
• Full-time availability with flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Proficiency with grooming tools, equipment, and products.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and stay composed.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to safety and detail.

Supervisory Responsibility:

• No direct reports but supports development of other associates.
• Provides performance feedback to supervisor.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Requires standing, walking, ladder use, and manual handling; ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and more than 100 pounds occasionally.
• Exposure to mechanical parts, wet environments, pet hair, and noise; handling live animals is common.
