Position Summary

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) is part of the inter-professional care team, maintaining collaborative relationships to provide patient care.

Duties

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living: feeding, lifts and transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Perform delegated tasks under RN or RPN supervision, in compliance with RHPA, after appropriate training. Oversight by RNs and RPNs is required for delegated tasks, which may include procedures involving insertion into body cavities or care under the dermis.
  • Communicate and demonstrate basic information according to the patient’s Plan of Care.
  • Ensure safety by reporting unsafe conditions or patient changes to RNs, RPNs, or other health providers, following hospital policies.
  • Maintain patient records and progress notes as per hospital policy.

Minimum requirements include:

  • Current registration with HSCPOA
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Behavioral management training (e.g., PIECES, U-First, CPI) is an asset
  • Ability to handle physical exertion (standing, walking, reaching) regularly
  • Experience in acute care or rehab is an asset
  • Good attendance record
