Position: Part-time Personal Support Worker

Coverage for evenings, nights, and weekend shifts (15 hours weekly).

Mission

Reporting to the Health and Wellness Manager, the Personal Support Worker provides personal care and performs tasks within their knowledge and skill, under supervision, adhering to standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor
  • Facilitate residents’ move-in and transfers where applicable
  • Observe and report on residents/clients care/services using appropriate forms or tools
  • Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living
  • Observe and report changes in residents’/clients’ condition to supervisor
  • Escalate medical emergencies to supervisor or emergency services as appropriate
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required
  • Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and adaptive aids
  • Understand resident/client needs and maximize abilities
  • Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents/clients and families
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident/client information
  • Respond to concerns and take appropriate action or escalate as needed
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment, including equipment and belongings
  • Report safety concerns to the Health and Wellness Manager and advocate for client safety
  • Engage with other agencies involved in care as directed
  • Attend in-services to develop skills and knowledge
  • Uphold the organization’s values and ethics as set out in the Code of Conduct
  • Complete all other tasks as assigned

Required Education, Credentials, and Experience

  • Graduate of Personal Support Worker program or provincial equivalent with minimum 600 hours of theory and practicum
  • Experience working with seniors in community health settings
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Interpersonal and customer focus skills
  • Proven skills in providing personal care duties
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification
  • Ability to perform tasks like lifting/transferring clients
