Personal Support Worker (PSW) - Newcastle

Provide skilled care for all activities of daily living in accordance with corporate policy, established standards, and recognized nursing practice.

  • Assist registered staff in nursing diagnostic and therapeutic measures.
  • Complete all documentation on time, ensuring it is current and accurate, in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Ensure a holistic, quality approach to resident care aligned with RhynoCare’s Mission, Vision, Values, and the Resident Bill of Rights.
  • Assist with resident meal service and restorative nursing.
  • Coordinate activities for effective resident care during shifts and across the unit.
  • Execute care in compliance with legislation, best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in risk management and quality improvement programs related to resident care.
  • Maintain timely, accurate documentation for all care provided.
  • Mentor new staff / students and promote educational opportunities.
  • Participate in safety meetings and promote teamwork among staff.
  • Adhere to health and safety procedures, including proper body mechanics, equipment use, safety protocols, and PPE usage.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English; second language skills are an asset.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria :
  • Completion of a Ministry-approved PSW Training Program (min. 640 hours) from a recognized institution, or
  • RN, RPN, Paramedic, Occupational Therapy, or Physiotherapy students who have completed Year 1.
  • Experience as a Facility PSW is an asset.
  • Negative T.B. skin test or chest x-ray.
  • Current CPR (BCLS) and First Aid certification.
  • Meet health surveillance requirements under the Public Hospitals Act.
  • VSS clearance within the past year confirming no criminal record.
