Job Summary:

The Personal Support Worker provides personal support and homemaking services to clients and families within VON policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborating with the healthcare team, the PSW aims to meet clients' needs to promote independence and wellbeing.

This position is eligible for a $3.00/hour wage enhancement from the Ontario Government for all hours spent directly caring for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and evaluate clients' and families' home and care needs, recommending changes as necessary.
• Assist in developing and implementing personal support care plans.
• Perform personal support tasks including light cleaning, meal prep, clothing care, shopping, and household safety monitoring.
• Provide personal care such as mobility assistance, hygiene, and bedside care under supervision.
• Offer respite care and support to families, including child care when needed.
• Organize daily activities and maintain documentation like call checks.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding client needs and changes.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and VON policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma; secondary education preferred.
• CCA Certification in Nova Scotia or equivalent.
• Certificate in Home Support Worker, Personal Support Worker, or Healthcare Aide.
• Current First Aid or CPR Level C.
• Experience working with elderly, ill, or children.

Skills:

• Strong communication and assessment skills.
• Knowledge of community resources.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Respect for confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.

Additional Requirements:

• Access to a personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search if applicable.
• Flexible availability and ability to wear PPE.

Physical demands include walking, standing, climbing stairs, lifting, and other movements requiring good body mechanics.
