Job Summary:

The PSW provides personal care and health maintenance to individuals and families in the home setting within the framework of VON philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards in community health care.

This position is eligible for the $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario Government for all hours spent directly caring for clients.

Are you a PSW who graduated in Ontario on or after April 1, 2023? You may qualify for the Personal Support Worker Return of Service (PSW ROS) through Health Force Ontario. This program provides a $10,000 incentive in exchange for a 12-month full-time commitment to an eligible employer. Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will provide companionship, personal care, and health maintenance services to clients in their homes, adhering to VON's philosophy, policies, standards, and legislation.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma (Secondary school education preferred)
  • Current Standard First Aid or CPR level C Certificate, if applicable
  • Personal Support Worker or Developmental Services Worker certification (mandatory)
  • Nursing students with completed first year of RPN or second year of BScN are eligible
  • Household management experience
  • Experience with elderly, ill individuals, or children
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and problem-solve
  • Adaptability to change and various social/economic environments
  • Personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and proof of insurance
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check upon employment
  • Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • French language skills are an asset in designated areas
  • Ability to wear PPE

Working conditions involve physical activity including lifting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and walking, sitting, or standing for extended periods, with attention to good body mechanics.
