The Personal Support Worker provides personal care and performs tasks within their knowledge and skill, under supervisor guidance, adhering to regulatory and Extendicare standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor
• Facilitate residents' move-in and transfers where applicable
• Observe and report on residents’ care/service using appropriate forms or tools
• Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and activities of daily living
• Observe and report changes in residents’ condition to supervisor
• Escalate medical emergencies to supervisor or emergency medical services as appropriate
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required
• Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring, and adaptive aids
• Demonstrate understanding of resident needs and maximize abilities
• Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents and families
• Maintain confidentiality of resident information
• Respond to concerns and ensure appropriate action within authority or escalate to supervisor
• Maintain a safe and clean environment, including equipment and belongings
• Report safety concerns and advocate for residents’ safety
• Engage with other agencies involved in resident care as directed
• Attend training to develop knowledge and skills
• Work trustfully with vulnerable adults
• Uphold the organization’s values and ethics as per the Code of Conduct
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Graduate of Personal Support Worker program or equivalent with minimum 600 hours of theory and practicum in Ontario & Alberta
• Experience working with seniors in community health services
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
• Proven skills in providing personal care duties
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certifications
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting and transferring clients
• Provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check or willing to obtain one
