Job summary

Baycrest Hospital is seeking a Personal Support Worker for the Behavioural Neurology (4 West) unit. The role focuses on assisting with daily living activities and providing compassionate care to residents with dementia-related behaviours in a short-term in-hospital program.

The position is temporary part-time (up to 4 months) with day-evening shifts and an hourly pay rate of $26.96–$27.66. Experience in post-acute/acute care and PSW certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• PSW certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent
• Post-Acute or Acute Care experience preferred
• Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First training preferred
• Cognitive impairment/dementia and responsive behaviours experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team

Job Summary

The Behavioural Neurology unit cares for patients with behavioural challenges related to a neurocognitive disease. We offer a short-term in-hospital program that assesses and treats people with dementia-related behaviours that can put themselves or others at risk.

Key Responsibilities

• Supports, in consultation with the Registered Practical Nurse/Registered Nurse, the physical and personal care needs of the client including, but not limited to: hygiene, grooming and dressing, toileting, recording nutrition and hydration intake, provision of preventative skin care
• Supports patients’ independence, dignity, social, emotional and cultural well - being
• Initiates and maintains a relationship with the client, their family and other care providers

Qualifications

• Current P.S.W. certificate from a recognized community college or educational institute or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience in a Post-Acute or Acute Care setting preferred
• Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First preferred
• Psychogeriatric experience, i.e. mental health assessment and intervention and working with responsive behaviours including various types of dementia, delirium, mental health issues preferred
• Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations
• Experience working with clients with cognitive impairment/dementia and experience working with clients who exhibit high intensity responsive behaviours preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
• Basic computer skills – Meditech, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
