PERSONAL SUPPORT WORKER / HEALTH CARE AIDE

Cognitive Support Unit

Position Type : Permanent Part-Time

Hourly Pay Rate : $25.61 - $26.27

Bi-Weekly Hours : 30 Hours, 8 hrs / shift

Posting Number : 8222

Apotex 5 is a Cognitive Support Unit. Residents on this floor have a range of cognitive and physical changes, from mild to severe cognitive impairment, and varying mobility levels from independent ambulation to wheelchair dependence.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Supporting, in consultation with the Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse, the physical and personal care needs of clients, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, toileting, recording nutrition and hydration intake, and providing preventative skin care.
  • Supporting residents' independence, dignity, social, emotional, and cultural well-being.
  • Initiating and maintaining relationships with clients, their families, and other care providers.
  • Providing care and behavioral support to seniors with various responsive behaviors and their families.

Qualifications include but are not limited to :

  • Current P.S.W. certificate from a recognized community college or educational institute, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Long-Term Care with clients in day programs or residents in a Long-Term Care setting is preferred.
  • Certificate in Dementia Care is preferred.
  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and U-First is preferred.
  • Psychogeriatric experience, including mental health assessment and intervention, working with responsive behaviors, dementia, delirium, and mental health issues, is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with PointClickCare, Microsoft Word, and Excel is preferred.
