Personal Support Worker for Adult Day Program Timmins Site (Bilingual French is Required)

As our programs and services are growing across the region we are looking for one PSW's to join our team! The successful candidate must have experience implementing activities for persons living with a diagnosis of dementia.

JOB SUMMARY

The Personal Support Worker will provide personal care, escorting & transferring, meal preparation, assistance with the ADP programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement and facilitate planned activities
  • Monitor participant mood and concerns.
  • Work cooperatively within the caregiving team.
  • Monitor participants throughout the day, assist participant with bathroom routines when required and support mobility needs.
  • Calmly & professionally react to crisis situations.
  • Provide support to co-workers, students and volunteers.
  • Monitor, clean and maintain the work environment.
  • Assist with implementing planned activities and in encouraging participation.
  • Collect, maintain and report required quantitative and qualitative data to support province-wide monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living, including eating, toileting, mobility and reminder to take their medication.
  • Prepare meals and snacks according to specified diet; serve and clean after meals and snacks.
  • Assists participants upon arrival and departure, helping them with their outerwear and belongings, including safe storage of medication.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an approved Personal Support Work program (by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) with experience in recreation activities for persons living with dementia.

Experience:

  • Prefer one or two years’ experience in long –term care with clients e.g. day programs or residents in a long- term care home setting
  • Experience working directly with people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and their care partners.
  • Strong knowledge of client-centered philosophy.
  • Experience in assessment and care planning/coordination.
  • Experience working in settings requiring inter-professional collaboration.
  • Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD).

Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including shared decision-making and facilitation
  • Ability to take initiative and be resourceful
  • Excellent problem-solving and change management skills
  • Proficiency in technology (e.g.: Microsoft office and case management and care coordination systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team
  • Expertise and experience in cultural sensitivity and diversity
  • GPA/ U-First and Dementiability Certification preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is REQUIRED
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Criminal Records Verification (within 2 months), incl. Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Travel across Chapter District as required.
