Job summary

Southbridge Exeter in Exeter, Ontario is hiring a part-time Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide direct resident care at our brand-new long-term care home opening in September 2026. Reports to the Director of Care and works to meet residents' physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

The role requires a PSW program (600 hours minimum) and ideal candidates have long-term care experience and strong documentation skills. We offer a supportive team environment with a focus on quality care.

Qualifications

• Completion of a PSW program meeting Ontario standards (minimum 600 hours).
• Experience in long-term care is an asset.
• Knowledge of care planning systems and documentation is required.
• Must be mentally and physically able to perform duties.
• Positive communication with staff, residents and families.
• Demonstrates empathy and commitment to quality care.
• Organizational skills to complete assignments timely.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Able to read/write English and follow instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct resident care including ambulation, feeding, bathing and grooming.
• Encourage participation in activities and assist with transportation to events.
• Support meal service and nourishment delivery; provide feeding assistance as needed.
• Provide emotional and social support to residents and families, including palliative care.
• Follow policies on documentation, quality assurance, safety and infection control.
• Consult with supervisor on unit activities and care matters.
• Participate in care conferences and update resident care plans.

Reports to: Director of Care

The Personal Support Worker provides direct personal and nursing care to residents to fulfil the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of residents in accordance to home polices, procedure and work routines.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists in providing direct care for residents; assists with ambulation, feeding, bathing and grooming.
• Encourages participation in activity programs by assisting residents to and from activities.
• Assists with meal service and nourishment delivery to residents and provides feeding assistance as required.
• Provides emotional and social support to residents/families including palliative care.
• Adheres to established departmental polices and procedures regarding documentation, quality assurance, fire, safety, environment and infection control.
• Consults with and informs supervisor of unit activities, needs and matters related to resident care.
• Participates in care conferences and documentation related to resident care plans.

Knowledge And Skills Required

• Completed a PSW Program that meets the appropriate standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, the National Association of Career Colleges, or the Ontario Community Support Association and must be a minimum of 600 hours in duration (including class time and practical experience time)
• Experience in long-term care an asset
• Knowledge and experience in care planning systems and documentation required
• Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
• Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents and families
• Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
• Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to provide resident care in accordance with application legislation, job routines, nursing care plans, ability to read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions in English.

Additional Requirements Include

• A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
• TB screening documentation as required under the Southbridge Care Homes' Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Policy.
