Opportunity

We are looking for a self-starter who will enhance our personal lines underwriting department by providing exemplary service to our Members. The Personal Lines Underwriter will report to the Underwriting Manager, Personal Lines, and will be responsible for accepting, rejecting, and amending new business, renewals, and endorsements for Members within allocated scope of authority. The Personal Lines Underwriter will work collaboratively with Advisors, Risk Inspectors, Claims Adjusters and Broker Partners to minimize losses, manage risk exposures, and generate beneficial solutions for Axiom Members.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Processing and underwriting files within binding authority limits involving personal automobile and residential and farm policies (i.e. new business, endorsements, renewals, and requests for cancellations)
  • Reviewing policy applications including Member profiles, claims history, inspection reports, credit ratings and driving records to determine coverage eligibility
  • Reporting findings to Advisors or Broker Partners prior to accepting, modifying, or rejecting based on findings from risk assessment and policy application review
  • Collaborating to determine appropriate coverages and evaluate policy options, while adhering to our Underwriting Guidelines and binding authorities
  • Working with our Advisors to identify available coverages, appropriate premiums, and necessary terms for new business, policy renewals, and endorsements
  • Communicating coverage changes and amendments to Underwriting Guidelines with Advisors and Broker Partners

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 2 years Personal Lines Underwriting experience (preferred), experience with farm policies an asset
  • University / college degree or diploma – Insurance, Business or Communications preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience using P&C insurer operating platforms, information technology and other various software programs
  • CIP Designation (or in progress)
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license
