Job description

Position Summary: The Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations Health Department is seeking a dedicated individual to provide care services to Tla-o-qui-aht clients in Esowista, Ty-Histanis, and Opitsaht. The ideal candidate should be energetic, compassionate, and driven. This is a full-time position that requires travel, necessitating a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license from British Columbia.

Culture Commitment: The Personal Care Aide upholds the culture of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations by supporting the Nation’s members. The role aims to foster a healthy, supportive community that values huu-piits-tulth (helping one another).

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Provides personal care to clients, including bathing, skin and hair care, feeding, transfers, and assistance with toilet needs.
  2. Performs delegated tasks such as medication administration, catheter care, and dressing applications, following specific training.
  3. Participates in prescribed exercises and mobilization routines for clients.
  4. Monitors clients' and their caregivers' well-being.
  5. Provides basic information on daily living, meal planning, and special diets; assists with feeding if needed.
  6. Maintains client records and performs related care duties.
  7. Encourages independence and self-sufficiency for clients and families.
  8. Observes infection control procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Home Support/Resident Care Attendant Certificate (Health Care Aid certification) or equivalent; current PCA students considered.
  • First Aid certification is an asset.
  • At least 1 year of PCA/HCA experience preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Food Safe certification is an asset.
  • Criminal record check is required.
  • Preference given to qualified Aboriginal applicants.
