Job summary

Personal Assistant required on the Isle of Kerrera near Oban to support one elderly gentleman in his adapted cottage. Separate self-contained accommodation is provided with all bills covered; no rent or utilities to pay. Working pattern is weekday hours Mon-Fri, 7:00am–2:30pm.

PVG membership and right to work in the UK required. Experience with personal care, moving-and-handling, hoisting, meal preparation, medication support, and keeping living areas clean is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on experience caring for an elderly or physically dependent person is essential.
• Comfort with intimate personal care and continence care.
• Experience with hoists/moving-and-handling is useful; training can be provided.
• Driving licence strongly preferred.

Personal Assistant Required – Isle of Kerrera

Location: Isle of Kerrera, near Oban

Salary/Hourly Rate: £15

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Monday-Friday, approximately 7:00am-2:30pm

Separate self-contained accommodation provided, with normal household bills covered

We are looking for an experienced, capable and dependable Personal Assistant / Carer to support one elderly gentleman in his own adapted cottage on the Isle of Kerrera, near Oban.

This is a continuous weekday role supporting one person, rather than a series of short care visits.

The Role Includes

• personal care, washing and dressing;
• continence care and toileting;
• transfers and use of moving-and-handling equipment;
• hoisting where required;
• preparing meals and drinks;
• medication support;
• care-related laundry and bedding;
• keeping his bathroom, kitchen and living areas clean and tidy;
• repositioning and general physical support;
• companionship and practical day-to-day assistance.

Previous hands-on experience caring for an elderly or physically dependent person is essential. Applicants need to be genuinely comfortable with intimate personal care, continence care and the realities of supporting someone with significant physical needs.

Experience with hoists, moving and handling and wheelchair users would be useful, although training can be provided for his particular equipment and routines.

A driving licence is strongly preferred.

The role comes with separate self-contained accommodation on the property, with its own kitchen, living/sleeping area and bathroom. There is no rent, council tax, electricity, gas or normal household running cost to pay.

Kerrera is a small and very beautiful island immediately beside Oban. It would particularly suit someone who enjoys quiet rural living, walking, wildlife and the outdoors. It is important to be realistic, however: there are no supermarkets, pubs or conventional town facilities on the island, and access is by passenger ferry.

Oban is directly across the water and has supermarkets, shops, cafés, restaurants and transport links.

Living on site does not mean being permanently on call. Once the agreed shift finishes, the PA's time is their own.

The successful applicant will need appropriate PVG membership, the right to work in the UK, and references.
