Job Title: Permit and Zoning Associate Project Manager

Job Summary

The Permit and Zoning Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all construction, renovation, or land-use projects comply with applicable zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and permit requirements. This role involves reviewing plans, issuing permits, interpreting zoning laws, and serving as a liaison between developers, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Permit Coordination & Facilitation:
    • Receive, review, research and advise on permitting processes for various projects
    • Issue permits and maintain detailed records.
    • Close out permits as required.
  • Zoning Review:
    • Review proposed land use plans for compliance with local zoning codes and land use ordinances.
    • Interpret zoning maps and answer public inquiries related to zoning classifications and requirements.
  • Public Interaction & Support:
    • Assist applicants, contractors, and developers in navigating permit and zoning requirements.
    • Provide guidance on zoning variances, conditional use permits, and rezoning processes.
    • Respond to public complaints or violations
  • Coordination & Communication:
    • Work closely with construction, design, planning and engineering departments.
    • Coordinate with city councils, zoning boards, and planning commissions.
    • Prepare reports and prep others to attend public meetings or hearings as needed.
  • Compliance & Enforcement:
    • Monitor ongoing projects to ensure adherence to permit and zoning conditions.
    • Investigate permitting and zoning violations and recommend corrective actions.
Qualifications

  • Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, construction management, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2–5 years in permitting, planning, zoning, or municipal government preferred.
  • Knowledge:
    • Local and state zoning laws, land use policies, and permitting procedures.
    • Building codes and development regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Must have advanced skills in reading jurisdiction codes.
    • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
    • Proficiency with permit software, GIS systems, and Microsoft Office.
Requirements

  • Must live within traveling distance to office in Deerfield, Illinois
  • Hybrid – 3 days in office at Walgreens Headquarters in Deerfield IL., 2 days remote

Pay Range

52,000.00 - 78,000.00
