Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to work in our Forensic Program. As an RPN, you will provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses, using a recovery-focused model of care built upon compassion, inspiration, and hope, and be an active member of the interprofessional team.

The position is within the Forensics Program, which includes:

  • A Secure Forensic Service with 3 units providing assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for court-ordered or ORB patients requiring higher security.
  • A General Forensic Service with 3 units for assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for court-ordered or ORB patients requiring lower security.
  • A Forensic Outpatient Service offering assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for community-residing court-ordered or ORB patients.

Please Note: Although the vacancy is for the FAU, all Registered Practical Nurses must be able to work in any area of Ontario Shores as patient needs require.

Requirements:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
  • Current CPR – Health Care Provider certification.
  • Completion of RPN Mental Health certification within five years of hire is highly encouraged.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice and commitment to reflective practice.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, and relevant policies such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence in assessment, care, medication administration, interventions, and documentation within the RPN scope.
  • Ability to implement and model the Recovery philosophy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Computer literacy, with Meditech experience preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform job demands and ability to work shifts.
  • Good attendance record.
  • Recent psychiatric nursing or forensic experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language and experience with diverse backgrounds are assets.
