JOB DESCRIPTION

Ontario Shores requires a Recreation Therapist for a position in the Eating Disorders Unit. The incumbent will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate individualized and group therapeutic recreation programs, as well as providing functional and strength-based social skills programs to support treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery for inpatients. The Therapeutic Recreationist should have knowledge of various mental illnesses and contribute to the patient's Plan of Care as part of the interdisciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation with 2 years of related experience
  • CPR Level HCP certification
  • Knowledge of current therapeutic recreation practices, theories, methodologies
  • Knowledge and skills in Music and Art Therapy are assets
  • Current professional TRO membership; registered or eligible for registration with TRO preferred
  • Understanding of recovery and mental illness, including treatment practices
  • Ability to implement appropriate treatment, leisure education, and participation programs
  • Skills in therapeutic recreation assessment and program design
  • Experience in a mental health setting preferred
  • Experience working with eating disordered patients preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer skills, ability to liaise with community agencies
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance and perform physical demands of the position
  • Valid driver’s license required
