The ideal candidate is warm, caring, and capable of making meaningful connections with residents. The Activity Aide reports to the Programs Manager and collaborates as part of the interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, and evaluate programs, outings, and events that address residents’ physical, social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and cultural needs.

Responsibilities
  • Complete documentation including program guides, participation tracking, statistics, assessments, care plan updates, and progress notes.
  • Plan and implement programs based on resident assessments, introducing creative and innovative recreational activities.
  • Organize special events, community programs, and outings.
  • Evaluate and adapt programs as needed.
  • Assess equipment needs and ensure residents have access to assistive devices.
  • Participate in meetings and care conferences.
  • Maintain effective communication with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ensure posters, notices, and calendars are current, attractive, and accessible.
  • Coordinate media notices with the Programs Manager.
  • Develop and sustain community contacts and resources.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to deliver programming.
  • Understand quality indicators used by the Home and participate in their improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, gerontology, or related fields from an Ontario institution, or equivalent recognized elsewhere.
  • Experience working with seniors and familiarity with GPA, PIECES, U FIRST, and Butterfly statements.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs.
  • Computer literacy and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of RAI-MDS; AIS certification preferred or must be obtained within one year.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to engage positively and turn tasks into meaningful social interactions.
  • Legal and health requirements including a Vulnerable Sector Check, TB testing, and vaccination proof.
  • Two supervisory references.
