Job summary

Parkland School Division No 70 Centre for Education’s Arcola School seeks an educational assistant to support students with diverse and behavioral needs. The role is part-time, roughly 3 hours per day during student days, with wage starting at $20.12/hour and a full benefits package under CUPE.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma from an institution recognized by the Board of Education.
• Ability to adapt to change and be flexible.
• Ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of school computer software such as word processing and computer assisted learning software.
• An educational assistant or equivalent diploma, NVCI, First Aid, Autism and Behavioral educational background will be considered assets.
• Commitment to the ideals of public education as well as the mission, vision and guiding principles of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division.

Responsibilities

• Support students with diverse needs and/or high behavioral needs.
• May transport students using a personal vehicle.
• Attend to personal hygiene and medical needs as required.
• Prepare and plan student-based life skills and academic programming under direction of teacher.
• Focus on successfully transitioning the student to be able to work with other students and adults.
• Focus on behaviour and safety plan created specifically for students as required.
• Supervision of intensive needs student(s) as well as small groups of students as required.

Equivalent to 3 hours per day student days

Duties

In addition to those duties outlined in the job description, duties include supporting students with diverse needs and/or high behavioral needs. The successful applicant may be required to perform the following:

• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without a lift and up to 120 pounds with 2 man lift or mechanical lift
• Transport students (personal vehicle may be required to transport)
• Attend to personal hygiene and medical needs as required
• Prepare and plan student-based life skills and academic programming under direction of teacher

Salary & Benefits

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the currently negotiated CUPE Collective Agreement as listed on our website www.secpsd.ca. The starting wage for this position is currently $20.12/hour along with a full benefit package and an employer defined pension plan.
