Prairie Valley School Division invites applications for a Nutrition Coordinator at Greenall High School in Balgonie. The role is permanent part-time (26 hrs/wk) supporting healthy menus and student nutrition in a school setting.

You will manage food service operations, inventory, and budgeting while coordinating with staff to ensure safe, nutritious meals for students and the school community.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent required; certification in food service is an asset.
  • Experience managing kitchen operations and inventories is an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and endure standing for long periods.
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety, sanitation and safe handling practices.
  • Basic math for measuring ingredients, recipe conversions and cash handling.
  • Ability to plan, prepare and serve large-scale meals.
  • Ability to safely use kitchen equipment and perform purchasing functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff and student information.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support healthy eating through menu planning and safe food handling.
  • Complete daily/weekly/monthly cleaning of the food service areas and equipment.
  • Source and purchase inventory; manage supplies and records.
  • Assist the school administrator with the nutrition budget and cash handling.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff on courses and involve students when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School Administrator.

Greenall High School offers Grade 9 to 12 programming to an enrolment of approximately 750 students. Balgonie is located 35 km east of Regina. This is a permanent part-time position that will commence as soon as possible.

Role Overview

The school Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for managing school food service in schools with specific responsibilities for preparing and serving a balanced and healthy range of food items in a clean and organized food service environment. The Nutrition Coordinator ensures respectful, positive and professional food services to students, staff and community members.

What you will do
  • Promoteand support healthy eating and good nutrition through proactive menu planning and safe food preparation/handling/distribution.
  • Proactively and thoroughly completerequired daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning of food service area(s) and equipment (including preventative maintenance) complying with current health standards.
  • Sourceand purchaseinventory items, manageinventory efficiently, identifyfood and supplies to be ordered and maintainmanual and electronic files and records.
  • Assistthe School-based Administrator in managing and monitoring the nutrition budget, including pricing items, collecting and handling cash and/or vouchers, and prudently purchasing supplies and groceries.
  • In situations where Commercial Cooking and/or Food Studies courses are incorporated into the operation of the canteen/servery and purchasing of supplies, workin collaboration with and seekinput from instructional staff, and workwith students in a non-supervisory capacity.
  • Perform other duties as may be required or assigned by the School Administrator.
What will make you successful
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Certificate or diploma as a Food Service Worker or related discipline would be an asset.
  • Experience managing kitchen operations and inventories in a commercial food delivery environment is a definite asset.
  • Ability to perform physical labour including regular lifting objects up to 25 pounds and standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to tolerate temperatures from hot ovens, dishwashers and other equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prepare and serve large-scale meals.
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation standards and safe food handling practices.
  • Basic analytical and mathematical skills for measuring ingredients, converting recipes, making change and balancing cash.
  • Ability to safely use and operate kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic food sales and purchasing functions.
  • Ability to manage confidential material and maintain staff and student privacy.

  • Hourly rate range: $22.91- $26.79.

  • Hours of work are 26 hours per week; exact scheduling to be determined. Nutrition Coordinators are not scheduled to work during school vacation periods including the summer break.
