Job summary

Upper Canada Child Care is seeking an Assistant Supervisor to join our Keswick team at Prince of Peace CES. This full-time, in-centre role supports the Supervisor in managing daily operations and curriculum while ensuring compliance with Ontario licensing requirements.

The position involves directing staff, coordinating schedules, and working closely with families to provide quality, play-based programming. A Diploma/degree in ECE and current CPR/First Aid are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two-year’s experience in a licensed child care setting.
  • Knowledge of Ontario licensed child care legislation and guiding documents.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check current.
  • Health assessment and immunization per legislation.
  • CPR-C and Standard First Aid current.
  • ECE registration up-to-date (if applicable).
  • Strong communication with families and staff.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisor in daily centre operations and curriculum.
  • Act as designate in charge when supervisor is absent.
  • Conduct tours for families and students as required.
  • Review program charts and classroom environments for quality delivery.
  • Prepare staff schedules to meet legislated ratios.
  • Collaborate with Supervisor and licensing staff during inspections.
  • Support staff with needs of children and families, including those with identified needs.
  • Assist with training/orientation of new staff and volunteers.
  • Maintain attendance records and related reports.

Upper Canada Child Care is looking to fill the position of Assistant Supervisor to join our team in Keswick at the following location: Prince of Peace CES.

This position is to fill an existing vacancy.

Position Type & Required Availability

Full-Time Full Day Position (40 hours/week): Candidates must be available to work an 8-hour shift Monday-Friday to be considered.

Position Summary

Provides assistance to the Supervisor in the overall operation of the centre and curriculum, ensuring compliance with all internal and external guidelines, policies and procedures. Serves as role model to the team providing direction and support through respectful leadership. Supports the organization’s vision, mission, and guiding values. This is a fully in-centre position.

Job Responsibilities
  • Applies professional knowledge of child development and current legislative expectations to support a program that is consistent with Ministry of Education requirements and in accordance with Upper Canada Child Care’s program statement.
  • Acts as designate in charge in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Conducts centre tours for families and placement students as required.
  • Reviews program charts, pedagogical documentation, and classroom environments to ensure quality program delivery.
  • Supports the supervisor in preparing employees schedules to ensure legislated classroom ratios are met at all times
  • Works in collaboration with the Supervisor and the Quality Assurance and Licencing Support in Ministry of Education inspection/licensing activities.
  • Provides guidance and support to front line staff, including support in working with children with identified needs.
  • Identifies children in need of additional support. Guides parents through the process of accessing resources. Helps design and implement individual support plans as required.
  • Assists the supervisor with the facilitation of team and individual; documents meeting and provides meeting minutes as required.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, and training sessions as required.
  • Helps the supervisor complete compliance and contraventions monitoring on employees as required. Reports concerns to the supervisor, including the performance of other employees with respect to the policy.
  • Assists with the training and orientation of new employees, students and volunteers.
  • Maintains and/or collects child attendance records for subsidy purposes and submits reports to Children’s Services as required.
  • Maintains centre and/or office logs, documents and files as required.
  • Monitors inventory and spending, and helps maintains petty cash.
  • Participates in health and safety initiatives as required in compliance with Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Supports child registration including the collection, recording and maintenance of personal information. Supports Accounts Payable department with fee collection as needed.
  • Assists with payroll data entry.
  • Fills the role of classroom educator as needed; supports with general housekeeping and classroom duties (e.g. meal/snack preparation, toileting, diapering, dressing).
  • Consults with the supervisor regarding supplies and equipment required to run a successful program.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Diploma/degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE); or approved equivalency, from a recognized college or university.
  • Minimum two-year’s experience working in a licensed child care setting.
  • Good working knowledge of all legislation and guiding documents related to licensed child care in Ontario.
  • A recent Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.
  • Up-to-date registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
  • Up-to-date certification in CPR-C and Standard First Aid.
  • Excellent organizational, and leadership skills; able to manage time effectively to meet the demands of the centre.
  • Experience with inquiry/play based program design and implementation, and with the use of pedagogical documentation.
  • Proven ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively and establish appropriate relationships with families, caregivers, and other professionals.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a professional disposition.
  • Have the physical and emotional stamina to effectively supervise children in a variety of settings including outdoor public spaces.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft 365, Intranet, Dayforce, Parent App, and Storypark.
  • Ability to use office equipment such as fax machine, photocopier and printer.
  • Valid driver’s licence and vehicle.
